Where could i get the cheapest rates for flight lessons in the Houston Texas area?
I want to get my private pilot license and have already completed ground school as part of an aviation camp and just need flight time and the FAA test to get it. Money is super tight and I need the cheapest place to log flight time in the houston area. Preferably closer to the NW portion of houston, but hey, beggars can't be choosers.

Sounds like you need more than "flight time". You need instruction, etc. Having your ground work under your belt (I assume you've already taken the written exam) will help but understand that there is a longer road ahead of you than behind you at this point. While the FAA allows you to take your checkride with as man as 35 or 40 hours, 60 hours is more common and 100 hours is not unusual. Rather than focus just on price, you should ask around and see what recommendations you want. Just because you find an instructor willing to fly for $20/hr doesn't mean its going to be cheaper in the longe run.

Unless I misunderstood your question - you cant find any flight school that will just put you up in a plane, solo. Its just not done. There has to be a flight instructor with you at all times until a certain phase of the training program when the instructor is assured you know exactly what you are doing. So - all you really need to do is crack open the phone book or search the internet for flight training schools near you and ask questions. There is nothing like getting the word from the horses mouth. Any flight school or independent person just shunting a person up in the sky with no training would lose their license in a heartbeat and could even face heavy jail time especially when it comes to a minor.

I've read that it's expected to hit the gulf on the 31st - will it be close enough to delay my flight? I'm flying to Amsterdam, so the plane will probably head east/northeast. Any thoughts?

Airports sometimes close up to 24 hours before a hurricane is predicted to even start affecting local weather and you don't want to be caught by that. Airlines allow passenders to change their trip plans without penalty when weather events may disrupt air traffic. You may want to depart on Saturday to eliminate to chance of a problem. Good luck!

Southwest doesn't serve GSP, ATL, CLT, any airport nearby. I searched from IAH and Hobby to GSP, CLT, and ATL, and also to AVL (Asheville), CAE (Columbia, SC), and AHN (Athens, Georgia) since these are all as close or closer than just Charlotte or Atlanta.
