What's your nationality? I dont think brits need visas to enter the US... Regardless, if u are just connecting flights, u should not require a visa... I'd rrcommend calling the US embassy, though... Things might have changed in light of the recent threats... Safe travels!

If you have an UK passport you will have to get an ESTA, with that the USA checks your name against their lists. You should get a stamp in your passport without problems, but everybody entering onto USA airspace and certainly when you touch down on the ground, has to be cleared by the system. Link to the site to apply: http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/travel/id_visa/esta/ It is free, if there is a site that charges, do not use that. To minimize delays, fill out all forms completely, follow all directions. Make sure you get out of the plane efficiently and walk fast, so you are ahead of the queue, but if you have not filled out your forms, or misbehave in the eyes of the security staff at the immigration lines, you will have to go to the back of the long queue. Instead of a hotel address you can mention transfer flight, I think you will have to add details like flight number, so have a copy of your paperwork handy in the plane, to fill out the form before you land.
