Contact an Asian ticket consolidator (bucket shop) in the metro Houston area. I'm sure there must be one there. They will have the lowest prices even lower than online. If you can be somewhat Flexible in your itinerary you can save even more. I think there could be direct flights to MNL or Hong Kong from Houston. Don't fly PAL or Northworst high prices and poor service.

If you take the 1 stop Singapore airlines flight, the total time from gate to gate is estimated at 22 hours ( yikes!). Currently its 842am in Houston, and 942pm in Singapore. Same day.

Okay. I am currently searching Orbitz.com for one adult. You can catch a non-stop flight on November 4 to 9th with Continental for $776 with taxes. You can get one stop in Phoenix with US Airways for $526 with taxes. The same prices are on the 3rd as well. Just to be honest do you really think that would be an extremly popular flight?... Plus with the whole gas prices issue the airlines probably don't want to waste money making a flight where they lose money...

I wouldn't say they are allergic to Texas, but airlines do a TON of research to see what would customers like to fly. They also look at other statistics to try and determine if a route will be successful before they start flying it. I would say that there isn't a huge demand from HOU to Hong Kong. Another thing they look at is the "downline" customers. That's how many customers originate in HOU, connect, and then end up in Hong Kong. I would be willing to say hardly any as HOU is their biggest hub.

Beside the supply and demand reasons others have given. Flight from Houston to Hong Kong would be 19 hours long. That is near the distant limit of a long distant flight. Beside how many people are willing take such a long flight.

Not many Texans live in HK, or vice versa, so no tourism traffic. The business traffic would be limited too, certainly not enough to fill a Boeing 777 (the only aircraft Continental have capable of flying that distance). Continental however do fly once a day between Houston and Tokyo, where you can catch an onward flight to HK, or you can fly from Houston to either Los Angeles or San Francisco which do have flights to Hong Kong.

Apparently there is not enough demand by people for an airline such as Cathay Pacific or Continental to offer that route. There are a lot of Asians in Houston but I guess the airlines do not see a market yet. Maybe with the introduction of the Boeing 787 and Airbus 350, you will see more point-to-point flying instead of having to connect somewhere such as in California or Tokyo.

Also, $300 from Houston is not realistic anymore. After checking it out, it's reported to be around a little over 9 hours for a non-stop flight, not certain though. The reason you can't find a non-stop flight from Houston is because there aren't any. Delta has a one-stop flight through Atlanta. Airfares are very high these days, and the summer peak travel season doesn't help either.

Houston is a major hub for Continental and I am surprised they do not have a flight to Aruba. If Continental does not have a flight, then you are out of luck. Maybe the airline did have a flight but demand was not high enough to keep it.

Need help deciding on a flight! Houston and Cleveland layovers

Need help deciding on a flight! Houston and Cleveland layovers??
I am trying to book a flight from Buffalo to Puerto Vallarta. I found two different ones in my price range... they both have two layovers. One flight has two 45 minute layovers and gets me in Puerto Vallarta at 1pm. The second flight has two 2 hour layovers and gets me in Puerto Vallarta at 5pm. I prefer the flight with the short layovers because I get to Puerto Vallarta earlier, but I don't want it to be too risky missing my connection. Especially since I don't want to be stuck at the airport for hours since flights to Puerto Vallarta are few and far between. The short layovers are in Cleveland and Houston. Is 45 minutes enough to maneuver between gates at those airports? The airline is Continental.Any advice is appreciated!!

I know you're eager to get to your destination as quickly as possible, but I'd go with the two 2-hour layovers. With two 45-minute layovers - even if your flights were on time - I highly doubt your baggage could make it to Puerto Vallarta when you do. They'd probably arrive a day or two later, simply because it's not likely that the baggage handlers will rush to ensure they get on your specific flights. No matter which flight plan you choose, pack some clothes and basic (travel-sized) toiletries in your carry on....just in case.

This past week I had a 42 minute layover and I made it on time. Also all my luggage made it with me. So if I were you I would take the 45 minute layovers. You would get there early meaning you would have more time to settle in. If you are worried about luggage and everything then take the 2 hour layover. Continental is good about getting your luggage to you. Have fun in Puerto Vallarta. Hope this helps

For liquid medications, bring your prescription record or a letter from your doctor, make sure they are 3 oz or less (if the container is larger separate a qty less than 3 oz) and put it in a clear one quart plastic bag along with your 3 oz-or-less creams or liquid toiletries.

You should have all medication in it's origional bottle with pharmacy lable. Keep all meds together (I carry mine in a large clear zip top bag). Liquid meds do not have to follow the 3.4oz or less rule and can be taken in larger quantites on the plane in the US (I'm not sure what the rules are for the UK). When you get to the security check point, declare any liquid meds you have to the screeners. You will need to remove the liquid meds from your bag and place them in a bin to go through the xray machine (this is where having them all together in one plastic bag comes in handy) for inspection. I have flown to Quito many times and from Texas I usually have a lay over in Panama. Flight time to Ecuador from Texas has always been around 8 hours total. Since your going to Duran, that is right outside of Guayaquil which has it's own airport. Most flight stop in Quito first and then fly to Quito so I think your flight will last a little longer another hour or so. Hope that helps. Have fun! The only thing I can think of right now is the number of stops a flight would have to make. Perhaps one trip is more direct than the other, so even though it should be shorter it is not. If that's not what you are talking about sorry...

Most carriers are showing the fare at about $300 to $350. this seems high to me. Try Shermans travel or the travel section of American express for cheaper fares. And always give southwest a look!

It depends: When are you flying? FYI the cheapest itinerary is almost always Saturday to Tuesday. Also, try to avoid holidays if you can, as these are high-demand times and the prices are almost always higher. It also depends on WHEN you book your tickets. If booked months in advance you can save up to $100 on the airfare in total. If booked a week before the departure date, the airline is then clear that you're desperate for a ticket and will almost certainly jack the price up way higher than it would normally be. Also, check on craigslist.com in your area to see if anyone is selling vouchers they've received from the airlines. On a flight that short I wouldn't worry about getting upgraded, you'll barely have time for a drink. Plus, it's pretty hard to get an upgrade without using frequent flyer miles and especially if you're not a member of their frequent flyer program. Why don't you join their program? I'm sure you can do it online and it doesn't cost anything.

Just be polite with a smile on your face and ask if there are any upgrades going that day. They can only say no, but sometimes they say yes. Staff at airports have to put up with a lot of abuse some days from disgruntled passengers. If you are polite it can go a long way.

In addition to the above dress appropriately for business class if you dress like a bum like I do when travelling you can be sure that you are NOT going to get an upgrade. Next best thing is to ask for an exit row at the ticket counter or at the gate sometimes you can luck in with a bit of extra leg room.

Houston to El Paso is a pretty busy business route even though it is not a long flight. You'll be competing with a lot of frequent fliers for the upgrade so don't get your hopes up. The best you can wish for is a discounted, paid upgrade, probably $50 for a flight that short. But even that is unrealistic. Face it, if the airline is going to give anyone a free upgrade, they are going to start with their frequent fliers who have Elite status cause those are the guys spending all the money. Then they will move on to the frequent fliers who have no status, and that is very rare--- they would rather fly with empty seats in First than upgrade someone who doesn't do a lot of business with them. So you can ask nicely and dress nicely and come up with a line about it being your birthday or something and you're still in the back of the plane.

I'm 100% sure there is not such an animal....try Spirit from Dallas via Ft Lauderdale, or Delta via Atlanta DO NOT EVER book thru San Juan......it's a nightmare transferring to the American Eagle shuttle and I don't know if the dog will end up with you........ and you didn't say what yo meant by soon..all airlines have a cut of point for animals traveling as cargo..heat on the ramps in the summertime....so check that out.....

Hate to disagree - Southwest Airline flies that route, and never puts their airfare on any of those resources. The carriers mentioned all change planes in another city, and you'd be better off shopping directly with southwest on their website http://www.southwest.com and Continental on their website http://www.continental.com - Continental will match airfare with Southwest, and their flight would be non-stop, but on a regional jet. Southwest's flight may have an intermediate stop, and will be on a 737.

I can tell you upfront, the flight from Houston to Dallas (Waco) is going to be between 100-150 dollars, unless you get them very early. Southwest Airlines does a $49 special for some places when you book 2 weeks ahead of time. I know for a fact that HOU to DLF is one of those flights. As far as South Carolina to Houston goes, my sister pays 350-ish for Raleigh, North Carolina to Houston. But remember the sooner, the cheaper. Hope I helped.

Looks like the shortest your flight could be is about 12 and a half hours. Most transatlantic flights are overnight so you'll have dinner, movie and sleep! I usually take puzzle/crossword books with me. Bring a pillow and a sleep mask if you want to sleep comfortably. Ear plugs help too as last time I had a brat who talked all the way across the ocean sitting behind me. I'm going to Edinburgh in September and I can't wait either!

It depends on which airport in Houston you are flying into. If it is Hobby airport you have plenty of time. Bus airport may be iffy at best.

To be honest, you're cutting it too close. If for any reason your arriving flight is delayed you're not going to make it. Try to find out what gate your arriving flight is and how far away your connecting flight gate is. You really only have 50 minutes to catch your connecting flight since they usually don't let anyone board 10 minutes before departure.

It will honestly depend on how long line ups are if you need to go through security, and if you need to go to another terminal. Check out the airport map and find the best route to get from point A to point B. Check with information services or an airport host the minute you get off the plane to find out what exactly you need to do and the best way to get there. If you are running late, they are able to then help you with solutions such as calling the gate or getting you through security a bit faster. If you are flying Continental into Houston Intercontinental, then I would feel more comfortable with at least 90 minutes because that airport is pretty big. Also Continental has a lot of gates there. Another thing is when are you flying? If it snows in Denver, then there may be delays even though the airport has a good snow removal system. I recommend you try to get seats towards the front of the aircraft since you are not familiar with Houston's airport.
