Houston airport - concerned about connection time

Houston airport - concerned about connection time
On the flights I'm looking at, for my return home on Continental I can either fly to Cleveland, then sit at the airport for 2 and a half hours before my flight home OR I can get to the airport 2 and a half hours later than the 1st option, fly into Houston and my connection time is only 40 minues. What would you select? I'm worried that 40 minutes isn't enough time to make my connecting flight in Houston. I went to the airport's website and Continental is in four different terminals.

Houston is Continental's hub airport and a pretty slick operation. Sure it's big but 40 minutes is adequate for a domestic transfer. They even have electric taxis to get you from one set of gates to another.

Honestly, it might seem weird, but I'd choose the 2 and a half hours. 40 minutes isn't very long and if your connection flight is in another terminal it takes time to get there. IAH is huge. If your departing flight is delayed even for a few minutes, that cuts into your connection time. The 'sit' time you mention in Cleveland probably won't really be that long, and sitting and waiting for a flight is better than being all bent out of shape about being late and running like a bat out of... you know where... to get to another terminal for another flight.

yeah, 40 minutes is fine; even if your gate is in the farthest terminal, they are all connected. But if the total time is the same....hmm....maybe you want to do Cleveland (way smaller airport than IAH).

40 minutes is short Here are some things to think before you select one 1-the plane that you are come in one is it big (737,DC-9,757) or is it small (CRJ,SF3,ERJ) 2- the plane that you are connecting to is it big or small (usually bigger planes park at terminals with other bigger planes and smaller ones do the small with other smaller ones) 3-are there other flights after your first incase there is a delay where you miss your flight 4-by the insurance (if you do get delayed and miss you flight the airline will have to find another way to get you home or put u in a hotel. Hope all this helped.

1. Check the latest Stars And Stripes for airfare ads. The German travel consolidators often have very good offers--even in peak season (summer). 2. Run your itinerary through http://www.bookingbuddy.com and check all of those sources, especially Mobissimo, Kayak, and AllCheapFares. 3. This airport offers military pricing online, regardless of where you're travelling from/to/via (you don't have to use that airport to check military pricing, in other words). http://www.norfolkairport.com/

I highly recommend American Airlines, they give a great military discount, but you have to call their reservation line. Do not book online, you will not get a discount this way. You will need to show your military ID when you check in at the ticket counter.

Super cheap flight to Dallas

Super cheap flight to Dallas?
I need a website that has super cheap flights from Houston to Dallas, preferably under $250. Thank you so much!

With the right amount of planning, any travel website (or southwest.com) can do that for you right now -- the cheapest published fares for the routes between the Houston airports (Hobby and Bush Intercontinental) and the Dallas airports (DFW and Love Field) are right around $100 plus tax round trip (or less than $150 per person after tax). These lower fares have advance purchase requirements of 21 days, though, so the chances are good that you're looking to buy a ticket with considerably less notice than that, given your requirement for a ticket less than $250. Though you don't specifically mention when you're flying, I'd guess that you're trying to buy a ticket fairly soon -- in fact, you might be trying to fly sometime later this week (or this weekend), given your request parameters. Given that limitation, I'm not sure that any website could guarantee you a ticket that low -- the published fares on that route indicate that tickets are considerably more expensive when purchased within 7 days of the departure date ($274 plus tax on American or United), and no website is likely to be able to circumvent the advance purchase requirements on other cheaper fares. The best shot you'd have of buying a last-minute ticket between those airports for less than $250 would be to put in a bid through Priceline or Hotwire -- even then, there is no guarantee the bid will be accepted. Again, though, this answer assumes that you are trying to buy a last-minute ticket -- if you're not trying to fly within the next couple of weeks, though, you might wish to add to your question the specific dates of your trip to see if someone can help you further. The fares on this route are quite low with advance planning, so there may be other factors at play if you're trying to book in advance.

I'm sure getting a flight under $250 to Dallas is not going to be hard at all. I am looking at an America Airlines flight from IAH to DFW, and the total with taxes for one adult is $142 round-trip. You can try: Cheapoair.com Expedia.com Hotwire.com Orbitz.com Have a great trip!

I went to Planetickets.com (http://www.planetickets.com) this morning and saw american airline (www.aa.com) doing a sale to Dallas. Also check out Southwest airlines (www.southwest.com).

All great answers, I would also suggest comparing prices with www.everydaytravelconnections.com before booking any travel. It's always wise to compare!
