I found that sometimes you get the best way is to call airlines direct. Sometimes the internet is cheaper, sometimes the phone operators are cheaper, sometimes travel agents are cheaper. Check out all three to make sure you get the best deal. There are a few other simple suggestions you should follow too: -- Choose the same airline for all legs of your itinerary whenever possible so you can take advantage of all connecting and round-trip airfares. -- Try to fly on the least popular days: Tuesday, Wednesday or Saturday. -- Remember that Saturday night stays are usually required for most bargain airfares. -- Try to select the least popular flight times: mid-morning or late evening. -- Check with discount airlines for cheaper fares. -- Try to book as far in advance as possible. Generally try to purchase your tickets at least 21 days in advance of departure. Many airlines also have specials requiring three-, seven- or 14-day advance purchase. -- In general, the cheapest airfares are available in the spring and summer. -- If you travel around the holidays, book your departure and return flights a day or more before and after peak travel dates. If you're flexible, you might benefit by waiting until the last minute to book your flight because major carriers often run special sales. These sales, however, often have a long list of rules, restrictions and blackout dates. --Consider booking tickets that come with restrictions because they also come with a cheaper price tag. -- Consider using alternate airports near your desired airport. The extra drive can save you hundreds of dollars. --Be as flexible as possible with your dates. If I can be of more assistance, feel free to contact me. Good luck and I hope you have a wonderful trip!

You could probably find out the flight time by checking on expedia.. it would probably include the transfer time too. As for renting or taxis, I've heard the public transportation in Houston is very good, so I would consider taking taxis, unless you are planning on venturing out of the city.
2 :
It depends on what airline you choose. For instance, if you choose Frontier or United, you'll have a layover in Denver, whereas if you choose Southwest or American you'll have a layover in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. If you are lucky enough to find a nonstop flight from Monterey to Houston, your travel time will probably be less.

You will probably have to fly from Monterey to LAX which is about 50 minutes, then LAX-Houston is about 3 hours & 20 minutes. Once here, it depends on how much running around you want to do. Mass transit is almost non-existant here, the Light Rail really only runs from the Med Center through Downtown but there are busses. Houston is over 600 square miles and it took me a couple of years to find my way around (okay, not one of my strong points!) so finding your way driving may be difficult. I would recommend that you take taxis if you will only be here briefly. Oh, and try to get a hotel close to where you will be working.

I just flew back from CA, it took about 3 hours or something, but I had a layover in Phoenix. Since you said you were bad with directions, I'd take a taxi if I were your.
5 :
If you were to get a direct flight from Monterey to Houston it would be approx. 3 Hrs 35 Min. You can get flight times for airports all over the world at https://www.jets.com/
6 :
Not sure but a direct flight from Houston to San Francisco is 4 hours.

when u go online to buy ur tickets (or just look around) it should tell the times (the length of the flight, how long u will be in denver, when u depart/arrive...)
2 :
Here's your answer: http://www.expedia.com/pub/agent.dll?qscr=fexp&flag=q&city1=RNO&citd1=IAH&time1=720&time2=720&cAdu=1&cSen=0&cChi=0&cInf=&infs=2&date1=01/10&date2=01/17&&rdct=1 As short as 4:54 on US Airways with a stop in Phoenix.
3 :
Be sure to take into consideration that Reno is 2 hours behind Houston. So it'll look like its an hour going to Reno, and like 5 or 6 hours going to Houston.
4 :
Your flight time from Reno to Denver is approx. 2 Hrs 7 Min. Then the flight from Denver to Houston is approx. 2 Hrs 8 Min. You can get flight times for airports all over the world at https://www.jets.com/

Is it possible to take on-day round-trip flights from Houston to Dallas and back?
That's what I meant when I asked this earlier and said I may plan to do it in the future.

Yes if you leave early in the morning it is just a short trip and you will have time to do much more. It is a non-stop trip if you go by I believe it is Continental. But Dallas is a lay-over spot for many airlines.
2 :
Yes I would imagine it's possible. I live in Boston and very often travel to Washington DC on a morning flight and return that same afternoon/evening. (Between 6-8 times a month for business) It's about an hour and a half flight each way. So as far as timing, it's definitely possible. I would imagine that Houston and Dallas are no further distance than that.
3 :
Yes very possible. In fact I would imagine lots of people do this pretty often.
4 :
Use Southwest Airlines. They'll do it for you. It's cheap and spartan; but you'll have the most choices.
